Master Key Systems

Masterkey suites offer a convenient solution for accessing numerous doors without having to carry all the individual differ keys.

They can be used to control who can have access to certain areas – keeping unauthorised personnel out and increasing security.

It is also possible to have various key levels (sub masters) within a key suite to control specific areas within a building.

For example, four different buildings could use a sub master key for each building, with a grand master key that opens all locks in all four buildings.

Some master key systems have communal locks (common entrance) included. This is where one lock can be opened by various differ keys, which is a popular setup with landlords who own blocks of flats.

With this form of masterkey suite, tenants do not need to carry a key for the front door as well as their flat door key. Instead, they can just carry their flat key which will also allow access through the main entrance door.

Landlords would hold the master key so that they can have access to the front door entrance and all the flats when required.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the benefits of master key systems?

A master key system offers security, convenience, and peace of mind.

A key management plan ensures that all access is predetermined, granting access to specific areas with a specific key. It effectively increases security for residents and management teams – not to mention any goods that need to be stored safely.

With fewer keys, the risk of them going missing or being stolen is significantly reduced, which helps to increase the security of a building even more.

Security and management staff can access all rooms quickly using one key. This means that, in an emergency, they can let themselves in and potentially save lives.

Master key suites make it easier to monitor how much access people have, which can help establish the cause of break-ins and thefts.

  • Who are master key suites for?

Master key suites are typically used in multiple occupancy buildings, such as offices, schools, hotels, and retail outlets.

A master key system can be beneficial for landlords and hotel owners, allowing them to access every room for maintenance and emergency work.

In schools and educational establishments, these systems can protect pupils and teachers from accessing potentially dangerous areas. They also prevent expensive equipment and sensitive information from being damaged or stolen.

Key management is ideal for security guards. They can patrol areas and identify the correct key, even when visibility is reduced.

Care homes can benefit from master key suites by limiting access to vulnerable residents, while still allowing staff to move freely throughout the building. These systems also provide families with the peace of mind that their loved ones are safe in their rooms.

Allocating cleaners with a master key will allow them to access all rooms that need cleaning. They won’t need to search high and low for the right key, so they can work more efficiently.

  • How much will a master key system cost?

The cost of a master key suite can vary, depending on how many people require access to the system, how many areas need special access restrictions, and how many doors you have.

Another factor that influences the price is the complexity of the system.

However, you can trust that a master key suite will provide extra security and convenience for property owners and residents, making it a worthwhile investment.

  • Do master keys work on all doors?

Many people assume that master keys allow access to any door lock – but the reality is that they can only open doors that use the same keying system.

For example, in a block of apartments, each tenant will have their own key which opens their front door only. The landlord or letting agent will have a master key that grants them access to every apartment, saving them the hassle of carrying one key for each door.

Some master key suites have sub-master keys, too. These provide more access than a key used for an individual lock, but won’t be able to unlock all doors like a grand master key.

Systems with sub-master keys can be complex, so careful planning is essential to ensure a safe and secure solution.
