Keeping Safe Once Lockdown Restrictions Have Lifted

As the lockdown restrictions continue to ease, life is slowly returning to normality, and sunshine and socialising are both on the cards.
However, as you start to venture out and about again, catching up with loved ones and doing the things that you’ve missed the most – like playing a round of golf, going to the cinema or watching your favourite football team live (instead of on the TV!) – you must keep yourself safe. And not just from COVID-19 but other risks too.
Here our Newcastle locksmiths offer a few top tips to ensure you stay safe once the restrictions have eased.
Going to the pub
Unlike last year’s lockdown where you had to order a substantial meal to get an alcoholic beverage at the local boozer, this year, you can enjoy your favourite tipple without filling up on food! And as of May 17th, pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants have been allowed to serve customers indoors.
But there are a few things you still need to be mindful of when going to the pub, such as:
·remembering to wear a face mask when you’re not sat at your table
·observing social distancing and the ‘rule of six’
You also need to make sure you know how you’re getting home. You could pre-book a taxi for a certain time to ensure you’re not waiting around for hours or ask someone from your household or bubble to come and pick you up. If you don’t live far, you might want to walk home – after all, it gives you time to sober up a little and saves on taxi fare. But if you’re walking, make sure you’re not on your own and stick to well-lit pavements.
Don’t forget simple things like lining your stomach with some food before you start drinking alcohol. And our Newcastle locksmiths want to remind you not to leave your drink, purse or house keys unattended whilst you nip to the toilet.
Cooking for friends and family
Six people or two households can (finally) meet indoors, and overnight stays are allowed. So, if you’ve not seen loved ones as much as you would have liked over the past year, why not lay the table in the dining room and invite them over for some home-cooked grub? And if they live a distance from you, dig out the spare blankets and duvets and let them know they’re welcome to stay over.
Are you looking forward to firing up the BBQ this summer and having guests in your garden? Us too and, the good news is, we can meet up in groups of 30 outdoors. Now, all we need is the sunshine to make an appearance!
If you’ll be spending a lot of time in your garden, you need to make sure that your front door is locked and all the windows are shut. Never leave your keys near the door either, and keep valuables out of sight of prying eyes. The last thing you want is for an opportunistic burglar to spoil your fun.
Shopping
Now non-essential shops are open, you might be tempted to indulge in some retail therapy. And after spending the majority of lockdown in comfy loungewear sets or pyjama bottoms at home – you’re bound to want to add a few new stylish staples to your wardrobe.
Whether you’re doing the weekly food shop or shopping for clothes or electronics, you must always wear a face covering (unless you have a medical exemption, of course) and wash your hands and trolley/basket on entry and exit.
It’s also worth taking a bag with you or wearing a jacket or pair of trousers with pockets, so you have somewhere safe to keep your car keys whilst wandering around the supermarket or shopping centre.
After all, nobody wants to search high and low for their car in the car park only to find that they’ve misplaced their key or locked it in the boot after putting the shopping bags in!
